What to do if you’re single on Valentine’s Day?! It’s time to get a Heart-On!! It’s valen-time to talk about the fun activity of being single on Valentine’s day. We’ve all been there, spending Valentine’s Day alone. Some of us have been there three years in a row, but I’m not complaining. Well, maybe just a little. But anyways!
Buy Yourself a Treat
The fact that I look for any reason to buy myself something is why I am a blogger and not a financial advisor. But regardless, pick something you’ve been wanting- a new lipstick, new polish, a book or some cute clothes. Get yourself something a few days before the big day so it has time to arrive in the mail, and as soon as it arrives, open it up! Use it right away and enjoy treating yo’self!
Treat Your Skin
Take a long bath. Light some candles, or some incense. On a budget? The Dollar Tree carries little boxes of vanilla incense that will last a pretty long while, just for $1! Light your candles, draw the bath. If you need some activities to do for the night, make some bath bombs for yourself- all you need is citric acid, baking soda, cornstarch, and some scented oils! You can find an excellent recipe here.
Next, put on a face mask. If the bath bombs weren’t enough and you’re still feeling the DIY bug, there are countless mask recipes available online. One of the simplest is to simply mash up a banana and apply it to your face! Find some more here, and treat yourself to silky smooth skin!
Once you have your mask on, climb in the bath and turn on some music! Revel in the moment and enjoy how it feels to be so kind to yourself. Once you’re done, find the softest bathrobe you have, and lounge in that the rest of the night.
Treat Your Mouth
Nothing says date night like a homemade dinner and some wine! Or some beer, or mixed drinks! Don’t let me tell you how to live your life and drink your drinks!
Homemade dinner for one can be as simple as spaghetti with a homemade marinara sauce (which is, for such an easy recipe, ridiculously satisfying! Try it out! Nothing tastes as good as homemade marinara!) or you can get crazy and make steak, fish, and so on. The sky’s the limit, so look up some easy recipes and get to it. Make sure you have all the ingredients!
If you’re picking out a wine, try and make it fancy. Pick something that’ll go with your meal and make your palette more fancy-shmancy! If you’re having a clear or white sauce, along with white fish, drink lighter wines. Pinot Grigio is a good in-between wine, but if you’re a beginner wino like me, stick to Moscato. It’s like grape juice that gets you drunk! And if you’re going with a red sauce like a meat sauce or marinara, as well as for the heavier meats like steak, choose a hearty red. Chianti is full enough to work well with your meal, but not be too harsh for beginners (for example, me). If you really don’t like dry wines but want a red, try out a “Roscato”. It’s the same thing as a moscato, but red. Just grape juice that gives you the giggles!
Treat Your Eyes
Pick out a good movie to watch with dinner! Something that’s cute and funny, but won’t make you sad that you’re single. Steer clear of rom-coms! I mean it!
HAND Yourself a Treat (HA!)
If you’re here, you’re probably a nail artist. Give your hands some TLC- cuticle remover, cuticle oil, file them, the whole shebang. And paint them, of course!
Enjoy Being the Awesome Treat that YOU Are
Remember that whether you can or cannot buy or make yourself treats, and whether or not there’s someone else to buy them for you- it doesn’t matter! YOU are the real treat! You don’t have to be in a relationship to be happy, so enjoy the freedom of spirit and the underrated practice of treating yo’ self.
